To generate a Canada Supplemented food fact Label, the user must start at the Ingredient level. Once the Ingredient is designated a Supplemental Food Item (link to first article) and added to a Recipe, then the Recipe can be used to create a Supplemental Food Label.
- Open the Recipe and select Edit Label.
- Select the Canada Authority.
- Select Supplemented Food Facts.
- Selecting a food category is mandatory and the user will be redirected after selecting Supplemented Food Facts as the Regulation.
5. Choose one of the permitted supplemented food category items to ensure a compliant food facts Label.
6. Select the language needed for the Caution Identifier Specifications.
Supplemented foods are required to display the Caution Identifier image (example below).
7. Click OK.
8. Click View Label to View Canada Supplemented Foods Label. The bilingual label below features the required Supplemented food warning, a Supplemented section at the bottom of the Nutrition Facts Label, and a Cautionary Statement. More information is included on these in the notes below.
At the bottom of the Nutrition Facts Label above, the Supplemented Nutrients are separated out. If there are no Supplemented Ingredients, the Label will state No Supplemented Ingredients present.
The Supplemented Food Identifier can be displayed in English, French or Bilingual English/French.
Health Canada requires a cautionary statement if a nutrient value exceeds the threshold. Users can read more about these requirements and the statements here: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/food-nutrition/supplemented-foods/labels.html
